Why is my Astra going into limp mode?

My 2010 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SRI went into 'limp mode' yesterday, I've recently had to fork out for a brand new automatic gearbox that set me back a bit. I've had no warning codes on the dashboard but the diagnostic bought up the Lambda code on both sensors, can this be linked to the transmission going into limp mode and if so, in your experience is it common for the Lambda sensors to both have a fault, or does this signal a larger issue?

A dirty lambda sensor would not put the transmission into limp mode, it could put the engine into limp mode. This could be the case if the car doesn't get driven very far. A fuel system cleaner in the tank and running it exclusively on Shell V-Power petrol may help.
