Best £10k car for a 600 mile commute?

Can you suggest a car around the £10-£12k mark that's suitable for long distance commuting. I'll be doing around 500-600 mile a week. I was considering a Ford 1.5 TDCi Econetic, although slightly concerned about how the government are going to address diesel drivers in the future.

Reliability hasn't been brilliant. By far the best diesels are the Hyundai i30 and KIA Cee'd 1.6CRDIs and the Honda Civic 1.6iDTEC. The Honda is the most economical. But wait for the autumn statement next week before committing.
