Old Motorhome likely to be a write-off-HELP - strange but true

I've had an accident where I'm at fault. Ran into someone on a roundabout who stalled as I was pulling out behind them .
Now, the vehicles been recovered and I'm trying to contact the insurers to arrange for an inspection. The van is driveable ,apparently , but they're thinking about a write-off.

Its olden but golden, wasn't ready to say goodby to it yet..sob..and won't be able to afford another, and I've just had a very sound repair done on the roof , and just m.o.t'd .It was going to be good for a few more years and has very little corrosion.

I always just wanted to run it into the ground until it couldn't go on, but it looks like this won't be possible now?
Are there any circumstances where I would be able to keep the vehicle, or does that cause problems for future insurance.

Any advice, please.

Speak to the insurance asap to say you want to negotiate to buy it back. Presumably the damage is cosmetic if they say it is driveable so you might be able to source parts yourself.

There is no requirement to make a claim for your own vehicle so don't.

At the time I reported it, so I can't take that back.

They haven't said it was driveable but I drove it for about a mile after the accident, and the recovery driver drove it off the vehicle. I posted another thread about this, sorry didn't realise I'd had replies.

Ive discovered the bonnet hinge is bent so I can't open the bonnet and am concerned that they will come to inspect it , say they can't open the bonnet and write it off. Someone told me I can ask for a breakdown of the repair costs. Should I contact the inspector and tell them the bonnet won't open, so they are prepared for that?
Someone else has suggested only an rv specialist should do the inspection?

Is the vehicle under your control, or in a recovery yard? If the latter it will be subject to predation of parts and contents. Get it back if the damage is light, they are probably looking at at economic write off whereas you can either put up with a scratch and a dent, or repair it much more cheaply yourself.

It’s in my possession , I’m confused though as I’ve been led to believe I only have two outcomes- they write it off and then you have to get a report done if you buy it back, and this then makes it hard to insure , or they don’t write it off ,
