Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian gets SVP treatment
Mitsubishi has unveiled the L200 Barbarian SVP II - a beefed-up one-tonne pick-up with two-tone paintwork, 17-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain tyres. Limited to just 250 models, it'll go on sale in May from £29,830 (excluding VAT).
The 2018 L200 Barbarian SVP II follows the original SVP pick-up and has been created by Mitsubishi’s Special Vehicle Projects division; however, despite the sporty name, the upgrades are mainly in style with the L200 using the same four-wheel drive system and 133PS four-cylinder diesel engine as the standard Barbarian pick-up.
That said, the SVP II gets some eye-catching extras, with 17-inch black and orange alloy wheels, BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres and wide wheelarch extensions. The grille and roof rails are also finished in black and orange, along with the fog light rings, door handle covers and tailgate handle surrounds.
The interior gets a similar orange and blank theme, with a generous scattering of SVP logos. Equipment levels are high, with Mitsubishi's latest Smartphone Link Display Audio system fitted as standard and allowing the driver to use their Apple or Android smartphone via the in-built touchscreen. Bluetooth is also standard, along with automatic headlights and keyless drive, xenon headlights, cruise control and reversing camera.
Like the standard 133PS L200, the SVP II will return an advertised 39.8mpg when specified with a six-speed manual gearbox or 37.7mpg with the six-speed auto. The 0-62mph time is unchanged (10.4 seconds) and all versions of the SVP will be capable of carrying one-tonne payloads.
