Mitsubishi Shogun Sport Commercial breaks cover

Mitsubishi is expanding its range of working vehicles with the launch of the Shogun Sport Commercial. Based on the L200, the SUV-styled off-roader boasts 1500 litres of storage and is capable of towing 3.1 tonnes, when hooked to a braked trailer.

Designed for van operators who need a rugged four-wheel drive van, the Shogun Sport Commercial is powered by same 180PS four-cylinder 2.4-litre turbodiesel as the L200 pick-up. It also uses the same running gear. Claimed economy will be lower than the pick-up though, with advertised figures expected to be in the region of 31mpg.

Using Mitsubishi’s tried and tested Super Select II all-wheel drive system, which includes hill descent control and a dedicated off-road mode, as well as trailer start assist, the driver will be able to electronically switch from two-wheel to four-wheel drive up to 62mph. This means it should be apt for coping with everything, from snowy roads to muddy fields.

There are no official details on price, but expect spec levels to be high with all models getting touchscreen infotainment, LED headlights, rear view camera and parking sensors.

The conversion includes a six-inch bulkhead and a completely flat floor with bonded carpet behind the two leather-trimmed, heated and electrically-adjustable front seats. Security is enhanced with opaque rear side windows, with steel versions available as an option.
