Toyota reveals all-new Hilux pick-up
The covers have been pulled back from the all-new, ninth-generation Toyota Hilux pick-up, which will go on sale in the summer.
Mild-hybrid diesel and electric models will be rolled out, including the first battery electric Hilux and, in 2028, a hydrogen fuel-cell version, too. It will provide fresh competition for the likes of the Ford Ranger, the Isuzu D-Max, and the Volkswagen Amarok.
Toyota promises that the new Toyota Hilux will stay true to its global reputation for toughness that's been established over more than half a century.
The new engine options will ensure its appeal in different markets, but in the UK the key models will be the battery electric and the 48-volt mild-hybrid diesel versions, both of which feature all-wheel drive and come in a double-cab form – customer preference has dictated that there will be just one body style in this new Toyota Hilux.

Toyota calls the exterior design "tough and agile", with a bold front grille and slim LED headlights, with a new rear deck step for easier access at the back. The electric version gets a closed-off front end for better aerodynamics along with different alloy wheels.
Inside, there's inspiration from the latest Toyota Land Cruiser in the design of the dashboard, with a boost in what Toyota calls "sensory quality".
Depending on the trim level, drivers can expect a central touchscreen measuring up to 12.3 inches across, with a digital driver display of the same size. Wireless phone chargers and extra USB ports are fitted, as is access to the MyToyota app for connected and fleet services.
Power for the diesel Toyota Hilux comes from the well-proven 2.8-litre engine, now with a 48V battery and motor-generator. Toyota promises a quieter and smoother engine as a result, while maintaining a one-tonne payload and 3500kg towing capacity. The hybrid components have been positioned to not affect the Toyota Hilux's 700mm wading depth.

The electrc Toyota Hilux is powered by a 59.2kWh battery with dual motors – one on each axle – with pre-homologation estimates suggesting a battery range of around 150 miles on a full charge. It will have a 715kg payload and a 1600kg towing capacity.
Toyota says the new Toyota Hilux Electric will offer "best-in-class" charging speeds and have full off-road ability, with a Multi-Terrain Select system for different driving surfaces.
Electric power steering will be featured for the first time in UK trucks with the aim of improving manoeuvrabilty and kick-back on rough terrain. There are new safety systems too.
You'll be able to order the new Toyota Hilux from June 2026 and we should hear more details about UK pricing and specifications before then. The hydrogen fuel cell Hilux will go into production in 2028.
