Is there a known issue with Ford Ranger gearboxes?

I purchased an ex demo 2021 Ford Ranger in 2023 from a Ford Dealer. It has 31000 miles on the clock today, FSH and at the weekend the gearbox failed. Dealer says £5300 to replace, so I took it up with Ford Customer Care and got nowhere and they referred me back to the dealer and said it was down to them. I was told the gearbox oil does not have to be checked until 40,000 miles and even then the gearbox itself does not need to be inspected until 10 years old or 150,000 miles. They wont budge and have given me until Friday to authorise replacement gearbox or pick it up? Where do I stand on this please?

Which gearbox is fitted to your Ranger? There are some know issues with the automatic models where some customers have received a partial goodwill gesture from Ford, but there is no guarantee on this. In the first instance, we'd take the truck to a gearbox specialist to see if it has failed, or if it just needs repairs.
