Accident - hit from behind. Should I claim?

My 24 year-old-son driving a 1997 VW Polo was hit from behind on nearside corner, damaging bumper & valance, approx repair £600 - driveable & still MOT able but quite 'heavy' cosmetic damage. Other driver accepted liability & his company car is being repaired on his insurance.

Son advised by garage to make a claim via his own insurance company who will then claim back costs & excess from other drivers insurance.

Will my son lose his NCD & will his future premiums be greatly affected?
Bearing in mind the age of the car is it worth pursuing a claim?

His insurance company has been notified but claim process not started. Thanks for your help.

Of course he will. He was involved in a claim. Blame has nothing to do with it.
