Ford Ranger Thunder returns as specialist edition pick-up
The Ford Ranger Thunder name is back as a new specialist edition pick-up. Just 1400 of the limited edition models will be sold in the UK with prices starting at £32,965 before VAT.
The 2020 Ford Ranger Thunder uses the same powertrain as the high performance Ranger Raptor, with its 213PS twin-turbo 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel producing a colossal 500Nm of torque. The performance pick-up features Ford’s 10-speed automatic gearbox as standard and selectable four-wheel drive, while official advertised fuel economy is 31.0mpg and 239g/km of CO2.
The Thunder runs on exclusive 18-inch black alloy wheels and Ebony Black executions for the front grille, rear bumper, skid plates, fog light surrounds, load bay sports hoop and door handles. LED headlights with darkened bezels are also fitted as standard, with darkened tail light bezels at the rear. Inside, the pick-up is equipped with full Ebony leather seats and “Thunder” red embroidery and matching stitching across the steering wheel, seats, instrument panel and key touch points throughout the cabin.
Ford hasn't published any payload figures for the Ranger Thunder, which means it isn't clear if it will be capable of carrying one-tonne. The Ranger Raptor, for example, is limited to 620kg which limits its practicality compared to rivals like the Volkswagen Amarok, Mercedes-Benz X-Class and the standard Ranger.
When it is launched in September this will be the third generation Ranger Thunder, with the first making its debut in 2003 and the second in 2009.
