Toyota reveals new Proace and Proace City models

Toyota has pulled the wraps off its 2024 Toyota Proace and Toyota Proace City vans, ahead of the launch of its all-new large van – the Proace Max – later this year.

The two new models feature new front-end styling as well as a number of revisions to improve the interior layout and driving experience. Electric versions of both are scheduled to appear later in 2024, along with the larger Toyota Proace Max.

The Toyota Proace shares its bodywork with the Stellantis medium van range as part of a joint venture between the two companies, so its silhouette is the same as that of the Vauxhall Vivaro, Peugeot Expert, Citroen Dispatch and Fiat Talento.

First out of the blocks will be the diesel-powered Toyota Proace medium-duty van, which comes in two body lengths with crew cab and platform cab options, ideal for converters. There are two diesel engines, namely a 118PS 1.5-litre unit and a 142PS 2.0-litre.

Both have a six-speed manual as standard while there will also be a 174PS version of the 2.0-litre, badged as the Sport and using an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Prices start at £29,921 and the first customer deliveries are due in late spring.

The smaller Toyota Proace City gets the new Toyota Proace front end styling, too, and will initially be offered as a 1.5-litre diesel only, with power outputs of 101 or 129PS, the latter of which will only be offered in the Sport model.

The Toyota Proace City shares its bodywork with the Stellantis light van range which includes the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo, which also see a number of revisions this year.

Two body styles are on offer – medium and long – with a one-tonne payload. Six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmissions are available.

All Toyota Proace City models will be fitted with Toyota’s Smart Cargo system, which uses a folding outer passenger seat and a hatch in the bulkhead to extend the load length by 1.3m so longer items can be carried. The passenger seatback can also be folded to form a desktop.

Prices for the 2024 Toyota Proace City range start at £23,496 with deliveries due to begin in April 2024.

What's the best small used van to buy?

I am buying a used small van, Ford Transit Connect size. What would you recommend in either petrol or diesel options?
Our favourite small van is the Ford Transit Courier. It is offered with petrol or diesel engines and is surprisingly practical, with 2.3 cubic metres and payloads peaking at 660kg: https://vans.honestjohn.co.uk/van-reviews/ford/transit-courier-2014/ The Citroen Nemo/Peugeot Bipper are also good little vans. They can't carry as much payload as the Ford, but have more loadspace and are cheaper to buy second-hand: https://vans.honestjohn.co.uk/van-reviews/citroen/nemo-2008/
