My Volkswagen T5 Transporter is making a clattering noise - any ideas on what this might be?

I have a 2010 Volkswagen T5 Transporter camper conversion which has developed a pronounced clatter at the rear on rough roads - not over speed bumps though. I've check the furniture and all seems tightly secure. My mechanic cannot find anything underneath. Any ideas?

Reads like a suspension issue. Knocks and rattles from the rear are usually related to the bushes, while springs are known to fail on the T5. I’d ask your mechanic to inspect both. The dual mass flywheel is another common failure point on these vans; however, the rattling is usually heard from the front, along with juddering through the pedals. If your mechanic can't find any problems with the suspension then I'd recommend that he checks this as you'll be looking at a £800 - £1000 repair bill if it fails.
