Ford Transit Connect (2014 - 2024)
240 L2 1.6TDCi 95 Trend Panel Van
Good but not as good as they say
I have been driving this van for 4 months now and has given me enough time to find its strengths and weaknesses. After driving many other vans in the past, I feel I can give some valid input into how this one squares up. I like the cabin it's very spacious and smart as vans go, it has air con and dab which is amazing, a luxury for van drivers after a hard days work. The controls are very easy to use, light pedals and steering. It does handle well. The back is spacious. Bigger than it looks. I'm sure it will be very reliable and cheap to run.
There are quite a few flaws though. The engine is horrible, it seems very unresponsive. It doesn't like getting away from a standstill without trying to stall and you have to constantly Rev it. Every Diesel engine I've driven before feels effortless but not this one. It's not just me, my work colleagues with the same type of van have the same problem. The other thing is the road noise is pretty awful at times. The seats are very uncomfortable, I start to fidget in them after 20 minutes of driving there's a lack of seat support on the legs and the seat padding is very thin, this is probably fords way of cheating and creating more cabin space (a bit of a con I think). Be sure to check out the thickness of the seats, I've never known anything like this. Also it is spacious and the load area is large but this van is as long as the transit custom so not that impressive really. You may as well go for a custom.
