Volkswagen T5 Transporter (2003 - 2015)
SWB T30 1.9 Panel Van
Not 100% perfect, but dam near and delivers the oods for us
Thought to be an ex VW rental van. Steel bulkhead and AC. Bought at 12months old with 11697miles on the clock to replace a 110Vito. Ply lined but fitted out with bespoke ply racking, 150ltr compressor and tool chests for use as the farm workshop van. Laden weight fuelled up = 2.7t -(more than vitos MGVW)
Serviced every 12months or 6,000mls. Alternator at 25k, Cam belt kit & water pump at 29k, Ign lock barrel replaced and usual heater control cable problem from sticky blending flaps bending inner cable at 32k, Rear spring at 34k (replaced with Pedders HD camper/ambulance spring & shockers kit- laden van sits 50mm higher, when fuel tank empty handling becomes "noticeable", wouldn't advise faint hearted using on an unladen van. At 2.7t up to max weight handling much better than on OE springs), Front and rear pads at 40k & 5yrs
Fitted with dunlop tyres as OE, noisy & poor wearing, replace with Mich Agilies, better but pure road tyre. Replaced at 40k with GoodYear Cargo Vector 2 all season tyres, looks to be good "off road" and no more noisy.
1.9 pulls well considering the constant payload.
Impressed by the plastic undershields along the sides/sills preventing road-spray coating underfloor and sills- (Vito predecessor rotted away there badly!)
Likely that we will run van to 10+ years, bodywork seems to be standing up well so should get there
Only gripe would be the blind spot from the LH windscreen corner post, at a T junction its wide enough to briefly obscure oncoming traffic.
