Dreadful, looking forward to getting rid of it

This truck spent around 3 months of it's first 14 months off the road broken down. I lost count of how many times it broke down. Ford were absolutely and completely disinterested and a nightmare to deal with. The "worst" time it was in at the dealer (waiting THREE weeks for it to be looked at, after repeatedly breaking down and being recovered to Ford by Ford Assistance on a flat bed) they actually told me that they were sorry, but they had been completely swamped by the number of Fords (IN WARRANTY) broken down. You couldn't make it up.

I wish I'd bought another HiLux! The gearbox is just horrible. You have to fight it all the time to change gear. You can't select first gear unless you are completely stopped, otherwise the gears make a horrible screaming crunching noise. Apparently this is "normal". Not in a HiLux (or any other vehicle I've ever driven) it isn't! The engine is OK, it sounds like a bag of spanners in a washing machine, but it's a truck, so I guess that's OK. At 11K miles the front tyres are shot (one side completed scrubbed, the rest fine). The geometry is fine, apparently this is a "feature" with Rangers (just google it).

On the positive side, it tows a trailer well, the satnav works OK and the reversing camera is very useful. The 4x4 works OK (when it isn't stuck on permanently) and it has good ground clearance. To be absolutely fair (hard for me to do), the mpg is good as well, I get 31mpg average.

Overall, the worst manufacturer and dealer I've ever had the misfortune to deal with (and I've owned a Fiat). The truck is a pile of the brown steaming stuff that comes out of the back end of a cow and I'm looking forward to seeing the back of it in another 18 months. If it lasts that long of course.

I'm never, ever, buying another Ford!
