The Ubiquteous Ford Transit - simply the best

Admittedly I had run Transits for a long time (I wish I had kept the Mark 2 ones as they would be classic vans by now with the sliding front doors!!), but when the transit transformed the market with styling in 86 (into one box) having already had the 2.5 DI engine in them, that's when they dominated the whole in my opinion. Yes I know the Mark 1's drove like a car when first out, but for me 1986 onwards produced some simply brillant vehicles. Merc often imitated but never bettered them for rust protection of security and in terms of dependability they are right up there too. Current vehicle is a bog standard facelift Transit and I am happy for that. Comfy seats, excellant vision with good sized wing mirrors. Shame that production ended in the UK and went to Turkey. I wouldn't have a new one because I understand the engine's aren't all that good (I had a facelift smiley face banana engine tranny that I couldn't kill). When the TDCI engines were introduced in 02/03 they also saw service in Jaguar's and arguablly security on the vans were better than the cars too as the Transit had also by then earnt the reputation of being one of the highest stolen vehicles in the UK.
