What's good
Superb ride comfort and excellent driving manners thanks to supple suspension and refined turbodiesel engine.
Off-road ability is second to none due to full-time four wheel drive and Land Rover’s Terrain Response system that is standard on XS models.
Decent load space with good access from rear hatch and twin side doors, with a tough rubber floor and full bulkhead for safety.
What's bad
Recall 07-04-2008: Sunroof may detach due to failure of guide rail.
Recall 02-10-2008: Supplementary Positive Temperature Coefficient cabin heater controller circuit may fail and drain battery. It may also short circuit and cause fire when vehicle is in use or parked.
Recall 23-12-2008: Supplementary Positive Temperature Coefficient cabin heater controller circuit may fail and drain battery. It may also short circuit and cause fire when vehicle is in use or parked.
The Freelander 2 Commercial is more expensive to buy than many of its obvious rivals, though it does retain its value well.
Servicing and parts from Land Rover are pricier than many business drivers will be used to paying for more mainstream vans.
The cabin shows up dirt and neglect more readily than many more basic van cabs, so seat covers and floor mats are essential extras.
