Toyota Proace unveiled

A rebadged version of the Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert, the Proace is available in two lengths and heights, giving load capacities of 5m3, 6m3 or 7m3, according to the configuration chosen. Payloads up to 1200kg can be carried and it's be able to tow up to two tonnes.

To achieve the best usability and capability, two sliding side doors can be specified, and customers can choose between a top-hinged tailgate and dual side-hinged rear doors that open to 270 degrees. The ProAce can also be specified as a panel van, glass van or crew cab.

The Proace will be available with a range of efficient, Euro 5-compliant diesel engines. The 90PS 1.6-litre engine produces 180Nm of torque and is matched to a five-speed manual transmission. Two 2.0-litre diesel units are offered, with outputs of 128PS and 163PS and peak torque figures of 320Nm and 340Nm respectively. Both of these engines come with a six-speed manual transmission. An 80-litre fuel tank capacity gives the 2.0-litre versions of the Proace a theoretical driving range of more than 770 miles before refuelling.

Prices and specification announced

Toyota revealed prices for the ProAce which starts from £22,300 including VAT. There is just one trim level which gets sliding doors on each side, 16-inch alloy wheels with wheel caps, fog lamps, heated electric door mirrors. Customers can specify plain or glazed double steel rear doors. Where fitted, the rear windows are heated and have a wash-wipe system.

The cabin environment can be kept comfortable with air conditioning. Other features include Bluetooth, electric windows, and the choice of a single front passenger seat or two-person bench. Further choices can be made when it comes to the bulkhead between cabin and loadspace. A ladder-type bulkhead is fitted as standard, with a steel ladder bulkhead featured in the crew van. A steel bulkhead with or without a glazed window section can be specified as an option on the panel van.
