Can I claim back the VAT on a new van I have just bought?

Can I claim back the VAT on a new light commercial vehicle I just purchased? It will also be used for private use as well as business.

If you're VAT registered, you can claim back the VAT paid on a van. However, if the van is also used privately, you can only reclaim the amount of VAT that’s proportional to business use. For example, a van that is in private use 50 per cent of the time, can only have half of the VAT reclaimed.
