I've just been offered a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 406D. Any thoughts?

Is it a camper or a van? Many 406Ds were converted into classic campers, with the large interior and raised driving position making it popular with owners who want a practical camper van for holidays during the summer. These are usually in decent condition; however, owing to the fact that the 406D weighs four tonnes, I'd recommend having it checked mechanically before buying. If it is a project, then you'll need help from one of the Mercedes-Benz owners' clubs.
If it is a van, then it will probably need a lot of work, although most parts are still available through independent suppliers. For more information on the 406D and parts suppliers, try contacting the Mercedes-Benz Club: www.mercedes-benz-club.co.uk/ Or try the Mercedes-Benz Owners’ Club: www.mercedesclub.org.uk
