What happens to the valuation of my van if it develops an unrelated mechanical issue while a claim is in progress ?

It depends if the fault occurred before or after the claim. The value of the vehicle is based at the point of loss, if the vehicles engine failed a few weeks after being involved in a incident, the value of the vehicle should be on the premise of how it was at the time the incident happened and should not be valued with having a defective engine.
