What are the benefits of a commercial vehicle as opposed to a car?

A colleague has to tow a 1300kg trailer as part of his work on a daily basis. To get the right tow car he has to go for something which hits him hard in tax terms because of high CO2. He has posed the idea to the HR department about having a crew cab but as it is a commercial vehicle he has to put a business case together. What are the benefits for an individual or the company to have a commercial vehicle on the books as opposed to a car?

New vans are not taxed on CO2, but instead pay a flat rate of £240. VAT paid can also be reclaimed as long as the business is VAT registered. For the full lowdown on commercial vehicle taxes, see: vans.honestjohn.co.uk/van-tax/van-tax-explained-wh.../
