A nagging interfering driving experience
First the good; Its very powerful and versatile mechanically - that is it will pull from relatively low revs which make for few gear changes. Its comfortable and the visibility when driving is good. The load space area is larger than before and there are plenty of anchor points for securing loads. The headlights provide excellent illumination at night. Its good on fuel, I averaged 38-39mpg with a heavy right foot.
Now the bad; The driving experience is ruined by a collection of "Driver Assistance" functions. Lane keeping is practically dangerous attempting to steer me away from the kerb when I have intentionally gotten close to allow wide vehicles to pass and it also randomly activates to grass banks etc - this feature cannot be completely turned off, only reduced to minimum which is what I have it on during these experiences. The vehicle is constantly telling me when I've done something; open a door and you are greeted with a cacophony of bongs. Surely if I am unaware I have opened a door I shouldn't be driving in the first place?! The parking sensors are excessively sensitive and alert "red" 2-3 feet from where I would normally stop at the front. Then there are instructions to keep your hand on the wheel and also alerts for excess speed in a limit. All of these functions are distractions, none of them are good or helpful. It is not a peaceful calming driving experience as I am constantly waiting for the next bong or steering input.
IF all these functions and notifications could be turned off this would be a 5 star van, but as it is I am already looking to change and possibly even revert to something old without the interfering and nagging experience. I'm thinking a tax and mot exempt mk1 Transit!
