Volkswagen adds 2.0 petrol engine to Transporter range

Volkswagen has added a range of 2.0-litre petrol engines to the Transporter. Offered with 150PS or 204PS, the four-cylinder engine is available on all T6 models, including panel van, Caravelle MPV and California camper.

Prices for the Volkswagen Transporter panel vans start at £22,625 (excluding VAT) for the 150PS 2.0-litre petrol and rise to £29,655 for the 204PS unit. Claimed economy ranges from 29 - 31mpg, depending on spec and size, while gross vehicle weights (GVW) will vary from 2800kg to 3200kg.

Maximum torque for the petrol engines are - as you might expect - lower than their diesel counterparts. However, the 150PS unit will still return 280Nm from 1500rpm - 3750rpm, which is 40Nm less than the 150PS TDI. The torque gap between the 204PS unit and its equivanlent diesel - the 2.0BiTDI - is somewhat more notable though, with the 250Nm from 1500rpm - 4000rpm being 100Nm less than bi-turbo diesel.

Available across the entire Transporter T6 range, the 150PS engine is matched to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while the more-powerful version is linked to a seven-speed DSG. Buyers can also choose between two-wheel or four-wheel drive.
