Citroen Berlingo - 88 per cent of official figure

It might be getting on in terms of age - it was launched back in 2008 - but the Citroen Berlingo has little trouble matching its newer rivals when it comes to carrying capacity - 850kg - and long distance driving comfort. The nimble Berlingo is also affordable to run too, with a useful 88 per cent score in Real MPG. In 2015 the 90PS 1.6 HDi was the best performer, averaging at 50.1mpg - which makes the likeable little Citroen extremely frugal at the fuel pumps.
