Ford Transit (Built between 2006–2014)

Achieves 95 per cent of official economy

If you need a capable used van then the Ford Transit will make a lot of sense because it is available in every bodystyle imaginable. You can also choose between front-wheel, rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, along with panel vans, dropsides and tippers.

Admittedly, the earliest Mark6 versions (pictured) are getting on in years, but they remain one of the best when it comes to Real MPG. Choose a Transit with the 2.2 TDCi 85 engine for example and you'll get 37mpg, while the 115 version of the 2.2-litre turbodiesel provides a respectable 38mpg.
