Volkswagen Crafter - 69.9% pass rate

As with many vans in this list, it’s lighting, brakes and suspension that provide some of the highest number of MoT failures at the first test. In the case of the Crafter, it’s two times more likely to stumble on shock absorbers than the national average, while brake failure rates are 76 per cent worse than other 2013 vans.

The Crafter – sold from 2006 to 2017 – was built on the same platform and at the same factory as the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, but the Volkswagen fares worse when it comes to the MoT. Volkswagen has since produced an all-new model, but it remains to be seen if this version will improve its fortunes at the MoT.
