Ford Transit Custom (2013 - 2024)
290L1 2.2TDCi 125ps Limited Panel Vanunrel
Unreliable due to battery life, otherwise I like the van
Bought this van as advertised as being designed for builders. Yes the short wheel base you can stand a sheet of plasterboard up and still close the door, but no consideration was made for ply boards being an extra 40mm longer.
So I went for the longer wheelbase, now you can open a hatch for longer items to go under the seat now builders will use quite a bit of timber that comes in 300mm increments i.e. 3.3, 3.6m and so on, so what have Ford done made it 3.5m
Now for the main gripe, the battery keeps going flat, and I'm told that's because when you open the doors the lights then stays on when the doors have been closed and there no switch like the old ones to turn them off, but another drive has taken the bulbs out and still has the same problem. I now 4 people that has this van 3 has battery problems, with the newest being bought in February 2017 and needed to jump start within 3 weeks. So f***s still haven't sorted it out.
I have done 38000 mile in 2.5 years so I think this should be enough to keep the battery topped up
I have started leaving the van running, which has dropped my fuel consumption down to 24 mile per gallon
Now having to look at different make for when I replace it when the 3 years are up in the summer
The deal can't replace the battery under warranty as Ford says there is nothing wrong with the battery
