Ford Transit Custom (2013 - 2024)
MY 2018 SWB 290 2.0 Eco Blue
Really patchy build quality!!
So decided to opt for a Transit as a show van for our company, the van has only covered 360 miles in 4 months and after all the dealer fees etc the initially discounted price that seemed so good ended up not so good. Soon I noticed just how thin the metal is; you close one rear door and the other door that's closed 'pops' out. Underneath the metal is so, so thin! In the short time I've had it I noticed several paint defects, a rattle/creak from passenger door, missing screw in the Bulkhead, missing rivet in the sliding door electrical connection unit. The trim panel under the fuel filler keeps falling off as the plastic clips are not strong enough to hold it in place. The passenger side under seat frame is going rusty, rear tie down bolts going rusty... The most annoying is the thrum of the engine on idle that penetrates through the cabin and the slight vibration through the steering wheel.
The van drives great, is comfortable and the cabin is a nice place to be, it also looks great in black but I am really annoyed about the poor quality control issues and wonder what else they forgot to add on the production line! I rushed into a purchase when I really should have shopped around. The vivaro variants are very basic in comparison and don't drive as well BUT the body is thicker steel and the engine is superior as it's quiet and refined. Drive other vans and check everything before taking the plunge.
