Would a high mileage van be reliable?

I want to buy a secondhand 1.6-litre 2014 Citroen Berlingo or Peugeot Partner for my dog care business. The guy in the garage advised that a 60,000 mile van would be okay and last for ages. He said I shouldn’t be worried about a higher mileage van. Can you advise how many miles I can expect from these types of diesel panel vans, please?

History is key when it comes to buying a trustworthy used van. And by history, we mean a folder of documents that show all of the vehicle’s servicing, MoTs and mechanical work. Ideally, you want a van that’s had an oil change every 10,000 – 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is sooner. All dealers and traders are legally liable for any faults that develop within the first six months of ownership, but the best will provide 12 months warranty as a minimum. If they don’t, push for it as part of the deal. It’ll provide peace of mind should anything go wrong.

The Citroen Berlingo and Peugeot Partner are effectively the same van and both are inexpensive to buy and cheap to run. The only problem that mechanics see with any frequency really is water getting into the fuse box.
